please i need help i cant figure this out i bought it used and im so confused

The 3G iPod (the one with the buttons in a straight row below the screen) will only charge via Firewire. USB is only usable for synching. You should have received both a USB dock and a Firewire wall charger with the iPod, since those were included in the box, but obviously there's no guarantee of getting the full set when you buy used. If you did not get them, you should be able to order replacements through an actual Apple store or on Apple.com. Alternately, there are still a few online suppliers that offer compatible devices. The one that I know of offhand is Zip-Linq, which has the added benefit of making all of their cables retractable for travel convenience.
