Any suggestions on where to live near Pleasant hill CA (relocation form NY)?

I do have two large dogs, but have lived very happily in a loft. Whats nearby and HIP? With a decent commute!! Thanks to all!!!

Martinez, Concord, Lafayette and Walnut Creek are some of the surrounding towns. Each have thier own pros and cons and all have a "hip" area..
do some internet research. rental and real estate in that area is at a premium, and you will pay thousands for a small apartment, upwards of 2 thousand for houses and condos.
