If a gay guy is not interested in me sexually he will ignore me in a bar and not want to even be my friend. Where is the gay 'community' in that?

That's cause you're at a bar. ;) I think that such a community does exist, but it's less of a "gay community" and more of a "leftist / political community". The "gay community", ESPECIALLY in bars, is really friggin' shallow. Because bars tend to be shallow. Join some other groups, you might surprise yourself.
