When I visited Vegas, I knew it was a once off trip for me so I arranged to stay on the strip amongst the action. I was able to get amongst it at any time of day or night on foot (cheapest most convenient form of transport!). Each hotel has unique features, it just depends what appeals to you. I stayed at The MGM Grand, and loved the "Lion Habitat" (I'm a huge fan of big cats), held a lion cub, awesome! Cirque Du Soleil show "KA" was booked out but we stood in line and purchased cancelled tickets (great seats), fantastic show! I also enjoyed the Tigers and "The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat" at the Mirage, took time out watching the fountains at Bellagio, had signature drinks at different bars at different hotels/casinos, photographed all the amazing architecture of each Hotel/Casino on the strip and the strip itself and partied at "Pure" nightclub at Caesars Palace.

Definitely stay on the strip so you can experience a piece of each hotel/casino with ease. Visit a few websites, see who's got the deals and features you find appealing. All of them are just amazing!

The "best" places, as judged by most travel magazines and experienced travelers, will probably be Wynn, the Venetian, Green Valley, and the Ritz. The Palms, the Venetian, the Four Seasons, "The Hotel" at Mandalay Bay, and Red Rock may also be up there, but not quite as "best".

Really, it all depends on what you are looking for and your budget.

The blogbaba's personal favorite is the Mirage, but it's been awhile since I went to Vegas. Mandalay Bay is top notch.

The hotels off the strip are nice, and as a rule they are less expensive. Circus Circus tends to be reasonable.

I've only been there once but we had a nice time at Treasure Island. And the Cirque show was fantastic.
