i didnt get scamed as it is illegal to just have limewire .. it said when got it..

limewire isn't illegal, just downloading and sharing many files on it is illegal. there are of course some legal things you can share and obtain off it, but not so much!

limewire pro will ordinarily cost you money but ironically you can download this off the bit torrent network and use it for free, though most of what you would get with limewire will be illegal too!

I think you paid for a better version of the illegal one! Plus there was no need to pay, as you could of downloaded the free one, and downloaded the better one on the free one! Basically its stupid, but i dont think it is illegal for us, but its illegal for the people who put the items on limewire.... im just using it as usual, wouldnt the website and server of been taken down by now if it was illegal??

Hi Sport Babe its a bit of a strange one this in theory all copying infringes copyright and so on.
But in practical legal terms to download from one of these sights is not as long as it is for personal use.
You could'nt copy something make copies then sell them that is illegal and against copyright law,as you have made money from someone elses material.
But viewing or listening to material in your own home with no financial gain is not illegal.
This is what i see the rules to mean and i myself download from file sharing sites.
Unfortunately you were had as you can get Limewire,Ares and Bearshare all free on the net.
I hope this clears a few things up for you.

i'm not sure, but i think the only reason you pay for limewire pro or whatever it's called is for a faster connection and quicker downloads. I think it's still illegal. If they asked you that question in the beginning saying will you use it for illeal download purposes, then it probably still is.

That I know of, it is not illegal to have Limewire.

So long as you are only downloading music for personal use, and not making money out of it, by selling the music you have downloaded.

And to have payed for Limewire, just (supposedly) means that there is more available for you to download, than for someone who has not paid for Limewire.

Its not illegal to have a copy of limewire (which is a free download).

But it is illegal to copy files which are protected by copyright. (which is what most people use it for).

So, No. Its not illegal to have limewire, but, yes, its illegal to use it to download music which is subject to copyright (i.e. most music less than 50 years old).

I have limewire myself, and I am not sure if it is illegal or not. I don't think it's that big of a deal of it is though. I have had it for two years and haven't had trouble with the law yet as a result.

There are two versions of Limewire - free and paid for.

Free works well, but music downloaded is illegal.

Paid for, gives you better connections, more choice and faster downloads. Again all music downloaded will be illegal.

I use the latter.

Downloading copyrighted files is illegal.

There are many legal things you can download with Limewire - shareware, freeware, open source material, Linux, any media files which are not copyrighted, etc. This is 100% legal with Limewire, Bearshare plus many others.
