The most current teaching techniques that really work are the requirements that the teacher be well versed in the material being taught and be able to explain things to another person. A healthy excitement over the subject matter is no liability, either. Perhaps this is why teachers are differentiated starting at about grade 7.

Edit:
Sorry, I missed your qualifier. While I have no little experience as an educator, I sought my credentials in another field, as did all my college professors.
