Because the effects of slavery rain down on us even today. You may not have a family member that owned a slave, but you may have ones that think they should or wish they could.
Slaves were demoralized and treated like savage animals. They were told that they were less of a person than white people. They were told they were evil, demonic, unrighteous, lazy, dirty. They were told that they were NOTHING. I know you have heard the statement before, and here it is again: If you tell a person something long enough, they will begin to believe it, and eventually they might even become it.
There may not be any living slaves or slave owners, but there are living Klansmen, and living victims of Klansmen. There are living segregators, and living victims of segregation. You only need to go back about 50 or 60 years to be in a time where blacks had very few rights and liberties. For many people, they can listen to their parents talk about days of segregation. Im not talking about old and cripple people, I mean people like Robin Williams, Bruce Willis, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Gere, Tom Hanks, Sammuel Jackson. Im sure that they all can tell stories about how things were a little bit different in their times. Not to say that any of them ever experienced anything or were a part of anything, but to give an example on time. We talk about racism and slavery and the aftermath and the whole movement as if it was 500 years ago. Many blacks were not actually free until about the 1950's or 60's, and thats not so long ago. And the aftermath of it all, still rains on us today.

I totally understand! no black person alive today ever was a slave and no white person now ever owned one. It drives me crazy that blacks are allowed to have their clubs but if whites made one they'd think we were bigots and blacks are also able to get taken over whites for jobs and addmisions for school. people are trying to make up for slavery to a person who never was a slave themselves. i understand that racisim is an issue and i hope i am not offending anyone by this. i just don't get that if so many black people want to be equal, and i think they should be, why do they make a huge deal if they do something great because they were the first black to do it i think we all should get over this whole issue, we need to get along and stop dividing our selves not only one race is responsible. I feel that blacks our treated fine now. racisim can exist for all races, not only blacks, blacks can be racist toward whites it all depends on the person. i wish we treated the same. also people talk about blacks and whites as groups we are all individuals, some blacks hate whites others don't and some whites hate blacks others don't. slavery was nearly a hundred years ago, racism still can exist but for everyone, for the most pert we aren't segregated. Blacks are given every opportunity whites are. people need to get over it. i mean many people were racist towards many religions/races at some time, asians, irish, jewish, the list goes on........people can be racist to those with blue eyes or brown eyes or maybe you don't like blondes, my point is we are all different and should be treated the same. i also do not apppreciate when some blacks are able to call each other "brother" or "sister" and say white man can't jump that we can't dance if they are so hurt by us saying things about their race they should not do the same thing, it all is a vicious circle, people shouldn't be hipocrits.
I hope i have not offended anyone i tried to word this so it was not offensive to anyone.

also i would be careful with generalizations because people may be offended by you refering to black people as a whole because we're all different some may think you are being racist.

Why do whites like you claim black people talk about slavery all the time? Whites are the only ones Iv heard so far that has brought up the slavery topic.

Why forget history, if racism would end you would probably never hear about it.

I think you question needs to be redone over to why do "some" "blacks".....

your generalization of a whole race is a reason why "some" blacks"
hold grudges...

Even if that's crazy...so is your thoughts on a whole race
you have never met before!

Because black leadership makes money and gets power dividing Americans from each other. We would all get along much better if all the "we are different" nay sayers would just let people be people. And more importantly, Let America get back to "All men are created equal" and away from special interest groups.
