Check out the Scion tC. 160 horses, a manual transmission, decent handling, all for about $16k. Here is the upcoming '08 facelift

Have you thought about getting a sportbike? For the price of a toyota echo you can get something that can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, top speed 175+, with great handling. However, it is a good idea to start out on a tamer bike such as a Suzuki SV650, Honda CBR F4i, or a 250/500cc Ninja.

I would suggest a Jeep Wrangler. small so it can fit easily around the city. short so it is good for offroading if you are into that. manual or automatic tranny whatever your preference, Four wheel drive for poor conditions, and a convertible all in one seems like a good blend to me.

Now'days.Anything good on gas!If you don't need cargo area, don't bother with it.If you do alot of stop-n-go,automatic.
Something you won't have to kill yourself working on if something
goes wrong.I hate to say it but maby foreign.I like manual shift myself. But I can drive them to be good on gas.The bigger it is the more gas it will suck.
(self experience).
