what's actually wrong with it? if it's a disc read error [and it's not the new slim ps2] you can fix it yourself for less than 8 bucks... with a little info
anyway, my point is, different problems may cost different amounts. as well, if you open the ps2, you null any warranty the ps2 has. however, if the system is pre-owned, it might have already been opened.

Did you buy it from a store... Best Buy, Target, or Wal-mart? If so, you should return it. If you bought it off someone it looks like you got ripped off...
