Get your resume together and get back into the system. Go to Monster.com and upload your resume. This happened to me too. I was laid-off 5 times in 7 years. Don't let it get you down. Just keep trying and keep interviewing. I ultimately got rehired this last January by the first employer that started the 5 lay-offs.
For giggles, go to: www.oddtodd.com He was laid-off in 2001 and he made that website to make some humor out of being laid-off.

Go to your local unemployment agency and take all of the required testing to get you started in a field that interests you. Based on your answers, they will narrow down the field that will work best for you. My husband is going through the same thing right now. Most of the major employers, national and local, will list with the unemployment agency and not advertise because all of the requirements have been met through the criteria the state provides. Be smart and evaluate your pension and insurance before you make any sudden moves. Think it through and don't be spontaneous.

How far over 50? This matters. If you are 59, you could find it more difficult to restart. At 51, you have a better chance.
Maybe you can find something part-time and claim some benefits to make up the difference.
At over 50...You don't really want to be slogging your guts out anymore. Good luck.

Get your mind set that you are going to have to find a new way to make a living. View this as an opportunity and not a setback. Attitude is everything. Be positive. This could be the beginning of something good for you. Good luck.

My old employer did the same thing.... he gave us a two day warning before shutting us down. I was jobless for 7 months and i was looking for a job the entire time.. Its hard but if you keep trying you will find some one who will be willing to give you a chance.
