I used to start counting the weeks after my Birthday on March 20th.
And I started counting the days after Mother's day.

We have 180 days in our school year, and on the first day of school my students write "179" in the corner of my blackboard!

I'm a teacher and I started counting in December. BTW, my birthday is March 20th also!!

I say you start counting about a month and a half before hand. If you start to early it seems to drag out forever.

Until the last week of school, so we and my fellow classmates can rejoice the moment we can't bring backpacks to school, and because i'm in 8th grade, I don't have to wear the uniform!
