The first answer you got was a pro now here is a con. If you are doing both sides of the story then read the links below.

There is just something wrong when you tell stories to young minds involving witch craft, and the author in a matter of a few short years is richer than the queen of England and one of the Richest women in the world. Yet we never hear of her giving back to the rest of humanity, only about the world vacations she and her family take.

For a woman who claims her life is 'mundane', JK Rowling likes a luxury holiday. In the past few years she has cruised the Galapagos at a cost of around £15,000, blown £14,000 on a holiday in Mauritius and enjoyed the comforts of a £6,000-aweek hotel in the Seychelles.

But in the Potter series, the line is not so clear. The "good" guys practice "white magic", while the bad guys practice the "Dark Arts". Readers become fascinated with the magic used (explained in remarkable detail). Yet God is clear in Scripture that any practice of magic is an "abomination" to him. God doesn't distinguish between "white" and "dark" magic since they both originate from the same source.

She asks how is it possible for a single mother to create a book that has been published into over 55 languages and sold more than 250 million copies in less than 10 years.

According to the article:

I think the secret behind JK Rowling is guarded more strongly than the entrance to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The truth, she believes, won't emerge until the market for Harry Potter is saturated, until the actress behind JK Rowling gets tired of her role and not until the real authors behind the pseudonym feel an enormous need for recognition.

first off, are you laura mallory? if so, you're wasting you're time. there is just as much witchcraft in the bible (eg king solomon visits the witch of endor. most of the egyptain stories of mages in them. see moses part how he did that thing with the rod turnign to snake & stuff like that & pharoes magicians copied it)

if you're laura...stop reading here. there is NO blood sacrafice in the first 6 books. no goats die. no human/fairy/ etc is put an an altar to burn. you've got your facts/stories screwed up majorly screwed up! get OVER it already...god himself inspired rowling with a great story...i bet he's just re-reading all the books himself in his throne rightnow!

*eyeroll*

if you are NOT her...

first off, if you're just a student stuck with an argument essay, i can sympathise *major eyeroll* i hate essays lol

anyway, for such an essay you have to show both sides of the story.

for eg: is it wrong to have harry potter & if so why? is the bible better?

well there may be some reasons harry potter isnt good (im an avid fan of it btw...but i still see some things) like the later books are, as rowling herself said, directed more for an older audience. some scenes in the movies may scare yougner children. though there is no swearing in the books, yet, there is mild langauge in the movies (bloody hollywood i dunno...)

as to the bible beign better, well it has scenes it in that isnt good for kids either. hello, the crucifixtion? id rather see dementors then watch some die horribly like that. so long as we KNOW god saved us...on the other hand the bible is supposedly an actual event. wehter it is or not is a dif argument. harry potter we know for sure is just fiction...

again eg: why do so many people like harry potter? is there anything good in it & how does it help?

well lots of people, the lot of which are christains who also read the bible, like the action adventure story. lots can relate to harry beign a misfit. some can realte to the fame like harry. also harry faces death several tiems. some of his friends die, most of his family is murdered. how he deals with the pain shows other people with similar problems of a way to move on. there are lots of friendship & morals & values much like the bible. its also a good tool to use for inexperinced/failing readers. it helped in a lot of schools for slow learners who just didnt want to read sudenly increase their skills several times over & learned to read.

anyway hope that helps...
