I really don't think you should be worrying about that. Who ever told you that is full of crap.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but if i had to guess. I would say that it's poor circulation in your legs. At least that's what it is for me. When i sit, it doesn't matter how i cross my legs but if i cross them for longer then like 10 mins they tend to go numb. The Doctor told me that it was just the circulation in my legs..

But if you feel there is something more talk to your Doctor. It could any number of things.

It can aggravate existing poor circulation, and if you're prone to back problems, not sitting flat can make them worse. Some people can happily go all their lives crossing their legs, slouching, and sitting on their feet. Others aren't so lucky.

Remember the general medical rule that if doing something makes you feel bad (numb, in your case)... stop doing that thing. Very simple.

Absolutely. Crossing your legs can cause circulatory problems such as venous insufficiency. Like the way varicous veins look?...continue crossing your legs. Crossing your legs can also contribute to spider varicosities, little reddish purple veins. We're been taught to sit like ladies all our lives but they forgot to mention the price women would pay for doing so. If you feel you must cross your legs while sitting, I suggest you cross them at the ankles.

Yes. It has been a factor in me having lower back problems and hip misalignment. It is best to try to sit with your feet flat on the floor(don't worry, I can't do it either). But if you just can't avoid it, then at least change your position often, stand when you can, take short walks to keep the circulation flowing, and drink lots of water.

All I have ever heard is the fact of vein circulation, that it could make that worse sooner than neccessary. As far as the rest I am not really sure.
