It's a choice that they make. Born with the desire? I don't think so. Sometimes women have more masculine tendencies.. and then they decide well.. why shouldn't I like a female. And it's the same thing with guys.

If you mean friendship-wise, it's because they can relate to each other more and have more in common pretty much.
If you mean romantically- I think it has something to do with genes, not sure though.
