I am 34 weeks and my plug is coming out. (or so the hospital tells me) They have advised taht I give up work coz its too soon, and i need to rest and relax to keep it in there, but didnt say that I needed too, just that it was a good idea. I am the type of person that goes mad just sitting around doing nothing and am worried that would stress me more tahn being at work. What should i do?

Yes, quit your job! Isn't the health of your kid more important then you going crazy because you are just sitting around doing nothing?

I had to quit my job at 33 weeks with my daughter (38 weeks with my son now & no bed rest, thank God!). I started climbing the walls after 3 days, but it was worth it in the end, as she was born at 38 1/2 weeks, which is considered full term. Get a couple of good books, and rent some movies. Talk to your doctor first, though. Sometimes the mucus plug comes out early even though the woman isn't dialating. Your OB has had training to know what to do in this and other situations.

If they are telling you to take it easy do it...you don't want to give birth to a baby that hasn't had time to fully develop it's lungs. Think about it what will stress you more sitting doing nothing or visiting a newborn in the NICU.

Good luck

p.s. Look at it this way it's only for about 2 weeks by 36 weeks every thing is fine if you go into labor.

If your job is not physically demanding you can keep working. You can lose your plug weeks before you give birth. If your doctor hasn't told you that you must go on leave and be on bed rest you should be okay. If you haven't spoken to your doctor, just someone at the hospital, call your doctor immediately. You can never be too careful.

I would suggest not to reject what the doctors are telling to ,for some time to relax and take it easy for what your about to give birth in a matter of weeks to a baby.I wouldnt suggest to put your body in jeportory for your job because you think you will go crazy not working. It may be a good job but if you were so eager to continue to work ,perhaps you shouldnt have gotten pregnant in the first place if work is a priority.Perpare yourself for the new baby and relax around your home..dont stress yourself about keeping busy all the time .congratulations and best wishes for you and your baby.

Well, If the hospital takes it seriously they know best. You don't have to sit on the couch when you are at home. Like you could start on the baby book, the babies room, take a calm bath, pluck your eyebrows, rearrange your closet, go out and calmly buy baby clothes around tuesday, because it's not the busiest day of the week. stay away from the first of the month and around the 15th..military paydays. have calm fun.

Quit owrk. There's plenty that you could do at home, including sitting all day on Yahoo answers if it helps. I had to spend all my pregnancy lying down, except for my doctors appointments because I felt so dizzy- I quit work at 10 weeks pregnant...be glad you didn't have a pregnancy like mine!

At the end of the day though, it is up to you, and you are the one who has to live with whatever decision you make.

Good luck!

Well...yeah you should probably not be working. Maybe you can go on partial bed-rest and work half days or something. I don't know what kind of work you do, but it may be possible for you to work at home. I'm sure if it has to do with the health of your child your employer would be flexible.
