In basketball, as much as I hate to say it, yes. I think it's just the fact they've been at each other throats at such a high level longer than anyone else. Big East rivalries just are not mature enough- plus you don't play some teams twice every year. Big football rivalries such as USC-UCLA, Michigan-Ohio State, and Texas-Texas A&M fall short because both teams have not been able to maintain a consistent level of basketball excellence. As a consolation, I do not think people mark on their calendars the stunning Blue Devil-Tar Heel football game every November.

Well, if you are talking basketball, maybe. Even then, Duke hasn't really been a power house until the early 90s which would make this a 17 year rivalry? Pretty young considering some of the other conference have longer power house rivalry. But I would say Duke and NC rivalry is one close to the top b/c of their power ranking the last 2 decades. A few big ten basketball rivalry I think is up there, UCLA and AZ is up there also, etc...

Now when it comes to college in general, I don't think its close to other rivalries. College football probably steals the cake on this one. Navy vs Army, Michigan and Ohio State, USC and UCLA, the list goes on and on.

the main suitable opposition in college soccer isn't Ohio St. and Michigan interior the paltry vast 10! The purple River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma is the oldest and maximum suitable opposition in college soccer. in case you will desire to circulate to a impartial spot just to play (Dallas), then thats a severe opposition. Michigan and Ohio St. do no longer circulate to a impartial spot. different rivalries: Duke/North Carolina (basketball) Florida/Georgia Celtics/Lakers Alabama/Auburn

Yes! UNC Tarheels are the favorite all around carolina team. We had the great dean smith coaching and had mike jordan among other greats to play there. Then Duke came along with a bang with coach K. Duke is a preppy school that is good for shooting 3's. They rarely lose at home and when they match up with UNC is a great rivarly. Either way they'll be a party on frankiln street, chapel hill. Go Tarheels

Yes no other rivalry provides as uch hype and chaos as that one does. Arguably the biggest reivalry in all of sports but I'll take Sox Yanks any day over the NC DUKE rivalry

I'd pick that as the 3rd biggest rivalry behind Yanks/Red Sox, and #1 is Michigan/Ohio State NCAA Football

No, because UConn/Syracuse have won three NCAA titles combined since '99, both have Hall of Fame coaches and it seems that either wins the Big East title, or it could beKentucky, the most storied basketball team vs. Florida the defending champions and the favorite for this years title and they could meet in the Final Four this year and there's no way Duke can.
