Is it possible to stop menstruation permanently without having a hysterectomy? And if I had a hysterectomy would that screw up my sex life? I simply detest my periods and never want another one and never want to have kids. Any ideas?

Apart from a hysterectomy the other way to stop menstruation would be to do with stopping the menstrual cycle:

o Wait till menopause (I know you don't wanna do that)
o Hormonal - Depo Provera has been known to stop menstruation in some women
o Other hormonal methods - GnRH antagonists (very expensive) can stop your cycle and therefore stop you menstruating

o Some women just take the OCP and skip the sugar pills - keep going straight on to the hormone pills and seem to be able to skip their period that way.

I guess you could have your ovaries surgically removed too - but that's pretty serious stuff and you'd do better to have the hysterectomy usually.

How To Stop Periods Permanently

Yes, there is a new pill out called Anya. It works like the regular birth control pill but you take it all year and it suppresses your period.

There are no long term studies because it is so new but here is why some researchers think suppressing your period may be more 'natural' than having your period: Up until recently, women have not had access to reliable birth control. As a result, women during their fertile years were generally either pregnant or breastfeeding (which can delay your period for quite a time in some cases). Women now are thought to be having something like four times the number of periods women used to have.

Anyhow, take a look at Anya...I'll find you a link and add it :)

I hope this helps

I have heard of women having the coil fitted, birth control pills, Depo Provera injections and patches that shorten and stop periods but the best way of doing it permanently without severe side effects is endometrial ablation. It stops the menstrual cycle permanently and there is no significant downtime unless you get an infection which may or may not occur. Of course the down side may include hot flushes and premature ageing. Do some more research.

How To Stop Periods Forever

Hi, I'm 22 and in the same boat as you. I do not ever want to have biological children and have no use for a period. My mom had something done to stop just the bleeding. I'm not sure what it is called. But basically they use a balloon type of thing to go into the uterus and burn the inside. This stops the endometrial layer from growing but changes nothing else. And my mom said it was not painful. So, maybe look into that.
And don't worry about what people say about enjoying periods and it makes you a woman and all that. I think you'd agree with me that periods do not make you more of a woman.
good luck.

The answer is really very simple NO. To stop your menstrual cycle you'll have to have a hysterectomy. Obviously some women take the contraceptive pill continuously without a break in order not to menstruate, but sometimes that interferes with your system. And secondly having a hysterectomy doesn't mess up your sex life.

Hysterectomies are not cure-alls. Taking out body parts can cause more problems to deal with. You'd probably screw up your body worse if you got that drastic over menstruation.

It would be better to deal with the specific problems you have with it.
