It's probably no worse for your skin than more expensive brands---as long as you are not wearing the wrong type for your skin. I've used both the cheap brands and the expensive brands and have settled on a mid-price brand, simply because I'm able to find a good color match that helps tone down the redness I get in my face during cold weather. Regardless of the brand I used, I didn't notice any difference in my skin---probably because I looked for non-comodgenic (sp?) foundation that wouldn't clog my pores.
As for the second part of your question, I think that it is likely that our skin will absorb small amounts of whatever substance we use on it on a regular basis. I don't think that this is something that has been looked into enough to be able make any kind of determination about the long-term effects of the chemicals in modern day make-up. Thank goodness we don't used lead-based powders on our faces like some of the ladies of the 18th century did.

YES it is completely true. I am an independent consultant for skin care, and your face absorbs EVERYTHING that goes on it. Your skin is mostly absorbant at night, so it is extremely important to cleanse and moisturize before going to bed so that you fill your pores up with good stuff and get the yuck out...
As for cheap foundations... yes they are worse for your skin (that's NOT saying most expensive is always best either) but usually the cheaper foundations are not fully refined and contain a lot more additives and impurities, than some that may be more expensive. These additives and impurities are not good for your skin and can cause break outs. Foundation is actually meant for the purpose of heping to protect your skin against the elements outside (as well as create even skin tone) so you don't want one that's going to hurt more than help.

Foundation fades and wears off from being touched during the day by your hands and from perspiring.
Foundation is not bad for your skin, but some chemicals can clog your pores. Those are the same ones in every line of cosmetics. The cheaper the foundation typically the lighter the coverage which allows your skin to breathe more. Whats really bad for faces is to not wash them and to not use sunscreen.

Yes they are bad for you b/c the have so many chemicals in them. Especially if you have acne prone skin. You should try bare minerals. It's priceir then the stuff you get at say target, walmart, places like that. Maybelline has a new mineral line out.

It depends on who's wearing it!
I can't wear drugstore foundation because it breaks out my skin terribly, however my best friend can with no problem. It just matters about how sensitive your skin is, but its not unhealthy for your face.
