When I was 17 I moved to Ontario from BC with my boyfriend and our very young son (yeah, I know) and soon after he began drinking non stop, and being a real p ri ck too, so one day, when I got my cheque, I pretended it hadn't come, and went and bought a plane ticket home. The next morning when he left for work, I packed everything I could carry with my son in the stroller and called a cab. From there I went to a bus station, and took a bus to Toronto Airport from Belleville, ON, got stuck in traffic on the 401, big surprise, missed my flight, and had to wait and excrutiating hour for the next flight, looking over my shoulder scared I might get caught, even tho he wasn't due home from work for 5 hours. By the time he did get home, I was in BC. He tracked me down the next day, of course.
The best way to help someone in this situation (provided THEY want help, and you know this by her attitude, like if she doesn't make excuses for him) is to listen, or maybe bring over groceries if they need it, offer to take the kids if they have them. If you're a guy and you like her, it's always easy to leave an abusive love for one that is nice and just happens to come courtin at the exact right time. It's harder to make the break and then start out on your own.

You need to find a battered women's shelter and put that person in touch with them. They can usually help to get these women and their children out safely and hide them.
If you know this person and bring it up publicly you put them at risk. But slip an 800 number into their purse, offer to drive them to a shelter or the police station. But yes get envolved. We are all part of the same family, the human family. This person may have no one to turn to and all they need is a little encouragement.
There is help available everywhere.

Be very careful here. You could put yourself in great danger as well as her. If the woman has the courage to leave him then I say help her create the opportunity by getting the authorities involved. If not you will just end up getting her hurt even more and probably yourself as well.

You should never get involved so deeply in other people's relationships. Just be supportive and listen to the person you care about that is the best way to help. You cannot and should not get involved any deeper that this.

Sometime a person just has to learn the hard way...through experience. In most cases we really should not meddle in other people relationships unless this evil you speak mean physical violence or being sold into prostitution?

You can offer your help and say it is an open option. Beyond that, it is up to the woman to make that choice. Maybe slip her the phone number for a woman's shealter or something like that.
Then back down. You made your move and it is up to her.

You can advise her to leave & get out of the man's site,or report family abuse to the police, husband will automatically go to jail for that once police see that she has been abused or has her word that she has been abused.

if it is an abusive one, i'd buy her a cast iron skillet and tell her to use it on his knees and feet when he fell asleep, leave a note saying she has left, and do not try to find her, or he would get more than just a bruise. but that is just me. get a lawyer, divorce him, get a restraining order and move

This is so simple and she can do it for herself. LEAVE LEAVE LEAVE and don't look back. Get an order of protection if necessary; go to a women's shelter if necessary; stay with family or friends if necessary. BUT GET THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS JERK!!
