just tell them the truth. tell them that you thought that they would over react. and you didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Whoah there. I say you should've told the family you two were going out, then later when one of you proposed tell them you guys are getting married. But, unless you have a time machine, you can't change that. I guess you just have to be honest with them. If you wait too long, it'll only get harder to tell them. And maybe you could have a second, less rushed marriage with each other (and invite the entire family)?

I don't know how you tell your own parents, "oh by the way I got married last weekend" without hurting their feelings. Unless they simply don't give a rat's a** - but then, why bother telling them at all. Any parent who cares about their child will no doubt be offended that they were not notified beforehand. I think your husband should tell them as soon as possible; there really isn't a way around offending them, but the sooner the truth comes out the better.

because he didn't want to be able to invite someone over another and cause conflict ??? That makes no sense.
You can't tell them without hurting their feelings, but he should call them on the phone and tell them. It is his place to tell his parents.
No, I'm wrong, he should go to their house and tell them.

My daughter was in the same situation as you, and she invited them (imediate family only) over for dinner and told them, they we're married and why it happen the way it did. Some we're hurt because they we'rnt invited but they understood!
