Well, to think in stereotypes is to think in the same old fashion as previous things. For instance, the basic slasher has no major difference between others. They are all about a psycho who is after some girl. Her boyfriend usually dies, and she always "supposedly" saves the day until another cheesy sequel.

For action movies, the stereotypes are always big, buff guys with a whole bunch of guns trying to save the city/country/world from some dictator. They always have big explosions and what not.

For sub-cultures, such as goth or punk it means to think of them in Mtv terms. For instance, a goth slashes his wrist, listens sto Slipknot or Marylin Mansion 24-7, and worships Satan. When none of thise are true for the average goth, who usually reads, listens to new wave (80s) music, and are a variety of religions, even Christianity.
