2) Have you ever been "caught in" a natural disaster? I've been in a 7.8 earthquake in Japan, seen 2 tornadoes and was in Hurricane Alicia in 1983(?) in Houston.
3) If you had to choose to live in an area with natural disasters, which one would you choose?

I just moved up to South Jersey last summer. Before that I lived in South Florida for 35 years. Those last 2 years before I moved I made it through 4 hurricanes. It was quite an experience. I am not afraid of hurricanes, at all. The aftermath can make your life miserable, though. No electricity in the 90+ degree temps that follow & you have no electricity, hence no air conditioning. No gas for your vehicle because the pumps run off electric and most of the grocery stores lose all their perishibles, so if you are not stocked up..... oh, well. If you are stocked up you had better have a generator to run your fridge or plan on cooking up all that food and eating it right away (hurricane party!!!). If you are caught outdoors after the curfew, you will go to jail, because they do enforce it. If you don't have a generator, you had better have some batteries, because when the electric goes out, it is darker than dark. You can't find ice anywhere for obvious reasons. You will most probably be under a boil water order, which you cannot do unless of course you have a gas stove or propane something or another. A grill helps. You cannot buy water in the stores, there just isn't any to be found. And canned goods.....well, everybody is buying all the canned food they can get their hands on and the stores just can't keep nonperishables stocked. It is the strangest thing to walk into a huge grocery store after a bad hurricane and see almost nothing on the shelves. Very strange. Vandals are everywhere. Hey, I am not complaining. You come to realize and appreciate what you have during tough times. People show their true colors during hurricanes and there are some wonderful, caring, sharing, thoughtful souls out there.

I will shut up now, but not until I say that I am more afraid of an avalanche than anything. I don't want to freeze to death.

I got tired of living in Tornado Alley and moved to El Paso, Tx. We don't get tornadoes, 10 feet of snow, or hurricanes. Several times I have been way too close to a tornado and I have been in 4 hurricanes and one minor earthquake. I am just gettin too old for the natural disaster thing.

1. I'm not really afraid of any natural disaster. I guess I'm a weirdo, but I love hurricanes and tornadoes fascinate me. Earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes really aren't an issue where I live.

2. I was in Hurricane Hugo in 1989. It was awesome.

3. I would live right smack in the middle of Tornado Alley if I could. Oklahoma would be cool.

I've had similar experiences. I built part of my home underground in the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee.

No major quake zones. Hurricanes just give us rain. BUT tornadoes is why I built my 1000' sq. ft. scare hole. Still lightening can do a little damage, but it is EMP protected.

I've been through 3 hurricanes. One in which the house caught on fire from the oil lamps, and burned to the ground while the wind was still over 90 mph. Hurricane Allen! AND my wife was 8 months pregnant!

1. Tsunamis
2. I have been caught in several Earthquakes, the biggest of them in 1985 which devastated Mexico City and another one that also hit Mexico City a few years ago while I was working in Congress. A minor earthquake happened while I was on my honeymoon in Bali, a few months before the big Tsunami.
3.Mexico City...some other kind of disasters happen there but those I can live with.

i've experienced 2 near misses from tornadoes and it was horrifying, i must say.
not looking forward to the 10 inches of snow heading my way tomorrow, but i'm prepared to the hilt for that. even put a ladder against the roof so i can get heavy snow off it, so as not to risk a roof collapse.
