Ya know, I can't think of any female TV detectives from the 70s other than Charlies Angels. Hard to imagine that they were part of women's empowerment!

There were women that came along with men detectives and played a role - Susan Saint James in McMillian and Wife.

The 80s I can think of a few - Cagney and Lacey. Lucy (Betty Thomas) on Hill Street Blues (well, she was a street cop and then a sargeant, not a detective). It seems like whenever another female detective came around that show she ended up sleeping with everyone. Hmmm, can't think of anyone else other than some eye candy, like Heather Locklear who was a cop. And that other Heather who worked for Lee Majors on his bounty hunter show.

90s? drawing a blank - sorry.
