You might be using a tampon too big for your body. Try a light absorbency. Some makers even have specially made tampons for teens and smaller girls (I think they're by Playtex).
Also, you may be inserting it in wrong. Make sure your relaxed and have one leg elevated. It should be up far enough that you can't see any of the cotton, but not so far that it hurts.
Also, some people just can't use tampons. I used to use them when I was younger, but ever since I had my son, they are very uncomfortable and give me cramps. So I just use pads and change them often.
I hope this helps : )

Because you're a virgin, probably. Use napkins or pads instead.

Additional: I learned this much from my mother when my sisters got their periods.

I know it has nothing to do with having a hymen, idiot girl below me. If you're a virgin, then it's usually harder to put in because you aren't as receptive to placing things there. You aren't or don't become as easily lubricated, and you aren't usually as relaxed and are more prone to tighten your muscles upon insertion.

They make the other products for a reason. Why try to force a tampon in when you don't have to? And don't tell me it's because they're easier to use. If a girl has to go through all of the crap people here are suggesting, then there's no easier about it.

Perhaps you're a bit dry. When I was younger, I used to put a bit of vaseline on the end, helped it slip in. Or if you're not using the applicator ones, you may be pushing an awkward angle, try lying on your back with your knees bent or one foot on the loo seat, that might help. Also, make sure you're not using a too high absorbency, use mini's for a bit to see if thats easier. Good luck.

mabye you're trying an absorbency that is too much for the amount of flow you are experencing. Or even try a different brand. I know some brands are more uncomfortable than others. I prefer the plastic ones. And remember, try to relax. That too may be the problem!

Because you most likely do not have enough natural lubrication for the applicator to go in easily. Get some jelly like you would use to insert a thermometer into a babies bum when you take their temperature.

are you putting it in the right way? or maybe you're using one that is to big right now. how old are you? it took me awhile to be able to use regular size ones when i was yonger. try using slims or something. you might want to go to a doctor too to make sure there isn't an infection or something wrong or to get the right instructions on using them....just to be safe. definatly talk to someone.

Use some lube to put it in, maybe you're too dry... or... maybe you still have your hymen?
