Maybe somebody has experience with this. I'm getting my wisdom teeth out Thursday, but I really want to attend school on Friday. Will I be in too much pain/discomfort to do ordinary school activities? Or will I be fine?

I really don't know what to expect.

Are they cutting through bone to get them out? Are they putting you under anesthesia? If they are, a day off school is probably what you will want to do. You are going to be swollen, so keep that in mind. I know the day after mine I was really sick and the thought of sitting through school would have been awful!

Good Luck and see how you feel Friday morning.

Yeah, definitely plan on staying home on the Friday. You won't want to do anything. It will take time to heal. I would expect to be out of commission for several days. So just relax, watch tv, and let everyone else take care of you. I'm sure your teachers will understand. Edit: Oh yeah, and as Soula mentioned, you will probably look like a chipmunk, because your cheeks will be swollen, so you may not want to go to school looking like that. But don't worry about the pain. The surgery is a peace of cake. They put you under so you don't feel a thing. Waking up right after it's finished is actually the best part, because you don't feel any pain at all. Afterwards you will feel discomfort, but Tylenal 3 will help you with the pain and soreness. They should prescribe painkillers for you to take for that, so not to worry. Just make sure you follow all of the instructions that is given to you.

You will probably be in too much discomfort to attend school on Friday. If any of the teeth are impacted, it will be somewhat more painful.

You will most likely be given some type of painkiller, which may make you very sleepy and tired feeling, which allows your body to relax and heal more quickly.

You will also have a great deal of swelling for a day or so after your wisdom teeth are removed, and you probably do not want to be going to school with " chipmunk cheeks."

Your dentist will most likely tell you to stay home from school until Monday, as the chance of infection is high for a couple of days after the procedure, and he/she is probably going to want you to be rinsing your mouth with warm water and salt to help avoid infection and aid in the healing process. Best of luck and have a good day.

If you're young, your body will heal faster. But as others have posted, it may depend upon how impacted (grown in) they are. I didn't have mine taken out until I was in my late 20's, and some were impacted. I suffered badly for a few days, and the "holes" where the teeth were removed didn't heal for weeks.

However, I worked with someone who was only around 19 and she didn't even need novacaine!

Just don't plan on being ready to go back to school. You'll probably need a few days. And maybe some meds for pain.

No way are you going to be ready for school the next day. I was a drooling mess, slept like 20 hours a day for the first couple of days. You're going to be on pain meds. You dentist or oral surgeon can give you an excuse for school. I didn't go to school or work after I had mine out. You can't eat, it hurts to even swallow, you can't drink out of a straw, even opening your mouth to yawn hurts. No school the next day. Doing it on Thursday is good so you have until Monday morning to regroup.

when Thursday comes, you will not want to go to school Friday. You need to stay home Friday and keep icing your face so it doesn't get extremely sore over the next few days. I had mine done on a Thursday too so I could recoop on the weekend. I went back to work Monday, but my mouth was still sore - but not sore enough to want to watch daytime tv!

You won't be going to school on Friday. You will wake up on Friday morning and look like a chimpmunk. You should be fine by Monday. Don't drink out of a straw or drink hot drinks while you are healing.

are they impacted? If so, they will have to cut your gums open to take them out... Then you shouldnt go to school. You will be more soar and maybe a little bloody still . If they are already sticking out you should be fine :-)

You will be in pain. You should definately take the day off and rest your body.

If you get an infection, you will hate life. Very painful.
