It's a 1992 ford tempo and when you go over any bump or like a crack in the road, you get a baning sound from the right rear tire. Could that be the strut? or could it be a bearing or just a strut mount? The car doesn't bounce at all and rides ok.

Shock seems most obvious, but I think you would notice a difference in the ride. A broken spring clip could also cause it because it allows for some play that wouldn't occur on a smooth surface.

my guess would be to check your wheel bearing first, and then to the shock next, then strut. and if none of those i would then give that entire side of rear suspension a once over.

More than likely it would be your strut, I had the same thing with my Mazda protege......when was the strut changed last? if it is original you have done well to keep it going for 16 years......

bad shock or strut on that side, possibly the mount.

strut.. they cost a lot.. the last car i had that needed them i sold rather then put 800 dollars into it

could be the body you have dragging behind your car.
