Why does the media crucifying celebs about their weight,or lack of it, then insist on printing pictures of them with"is ***** getting fat?" as the headline when they do put on a few ounces! The media are more to blame than anyone for the size zero trend.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder! Everyone knows this saying, and yet today we are forced to believe that a woman should be skinny to the point of adult malnutrition and then be considered a beauty.

The fashion world and the media has propagated this perception. We have never seen any popular designer consider a fashion show for average size women.

Most women are not a size zero, and the fashion industry should represent the women who are going to purchase their clothes.

P.S. If you are are wondering, I am not fat. Nor am I encouraging overeating to the point that one can barely breath when they take five steps!

Eat healthy! Don't starve!

that is both i imagine they are heavily appropriate. I hate seeing a tattoo on a lady too which hyperlinks into the sheep type to boot. The media promotes this variety of volatile, trashy, impulsive habit and persons basically purchase actual into it, hence the media prospers off it and keeps turning out to be off of it. It expands properly previous waist sizes and tattoos besides the undeniable fact that. many people look hypnotized through what they see on television study in magazines and what they see their friends doing, i'd classify it as an ailment. one aspect people both are detached or it seems that do not care about is that the media does this fascinated about the only purpose of creating more beneficial revenue circuitously or yet another, they are very hardly ever operating in the regular public maximum ideal interest. If one were to search for the way a majority of those agencies are linked to at least one yet another, it may help open their eyes to the tremendous image and how through being "sheep" they basically play actual into all of it and gasoline it with the help of their moves.

I believe that society plays a role along with having the media as it's soapbox to get the point out to a broader audience. It's disgusting how people especially men find women who are super skinny to be attractive. Are we so bent on being pleasing to the eye that we forget that being super overweight and super skinny is not healthy. We have to learn how to be comfortable in our own skin it's society who is defining that a woman will be acceptable for dating and marriage if she's thin and pretty.

It's shameful that the media broadcasts celebs who were skinny to being declared fat, what kind of image are we putting out here we have young girls as young as 7-8 years old talking about how fat they are and they see people like Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez with perfect figures and they wonder will they ever be that good enough for a man when they're old enough to date.

I don't know who finds someone who's a size zero to be cute it's gross and they look sick. Many actresses resort to getting their weight down to keep working since the industry thrives on them maintaining skinny frames to keep the cost of costumes down for many productions to stay on budget so they don't have to adjust them for the star gaining or losing weight. Many of these actresses are also ending up in the hospital or some rehab clinic due to stress and exhaustion much of it from their constant battle with the scales you can make yourself sick just by losing or gaining too fast because you can throw your body chemistry off.

well if i remember correctly the whole have to be skinny thing started with a fench designer who made relealing swimming costumes and britian jumped on the band wagon so people started to realise sometimes its not good to have too much flesh on show and started to get thinner.
i think its slowly been getting worse people now aspire to look like catwalk models which for 99% of the population is just not achievable people shouldnt keep wanting to keep up with the trends but then again its hard when all there is in magazines and papers is tiny people wearing lovely clothes and when you put them on you look lke a whale. size 12 or not! so yes i think the media is to blame mostly anyway.

I agree entirely! One minute the media are saying how fab someone looks! Then the next they are slating them! No wonder celebs develop eating disorders (which the media then praises them for losing weight). It is a vicious circle. But we can't blame the media entirely. Take these celeb magazines for example; if people didn't buy them then they wouldn't be able to send out these mixed mesages!!

Yes, look at the TV show Desperate Housewives. Have you ever seen a housewife who was that thin???

But then again, people, especially women (b*tches) tend to quickly label a girl of size 14 "fat" (example Charlie Brooks who was in Eastenders or Charlotte Church), instead of supporting them. Marilyn Monroe wasn't a stick insect you know.

I find Renee Zellweger much cuter as Bridget Jones than as her skinny self. And Mark Darcy loved her!

The media & entire acting profession are to blame. There are thousands of actor/actresses out there who are probably much better than the stick insects we see on our screens but the industry demands perfection. The result is we have actors/actresses scared to eat in case it causes a bulge or, god forbid, a natural curve because it means they will not get the job.
These poor, starved, ill-looking creatures are the role models our kids look up to & aprire to be like. No wonder younger & younger kids are being diagnosed with eating disorders.

yes and no.

firstly look at how they treated Nicole Richie. recently saw a program entitled 'extreme skinny celebrities' condemning the like of Kiera Knightly etc. as well as the potential weight restrictions on the minimum weight for catwalk models

although most celebrities do conform to skinny/slim figures just because it is commercial, although this is also to do with the watchers. most people WANT to see the slim and the beautiful on TV. if people saw a fat lead on a TV show their attitudes to it would be different

however, the repeated images on TV do make people want to be skinnier. although it cannot be denied that the boom in obesity is happening and will continue to worsen.

it seems to me that there is lots happening on both sides of the size scale; lots of fat people and lots of skinny people. is the media to be blamed for both i.e. fast food advertising, couch potato culture. or maybe we should be blaming ourselves...

I disagree - This is a free country, and you are perfectly free to ignore the media.

If you spend your money (and your time) on those stupid women's mags that seem to centre entirely on what so-called celebrities are wearing/saying/eating - that's your choice. If you believe the rubbish printed in those mags - your choice.

If you decide what to do with your body based on some third-rate hack's article about a third-rate celeb' - YOUR CHOICE!
