Mystery snails can be difficult to breed sometimes because they don't do it all that often. The biggest thing is just to be patient and eventually they will probably lay eggs. And trust me, you are going to want a top on your aquarium. Mystery snails are notorious for escaping. I have heard stories of people finding their snails all the way on the other side of their house, and a few stories about snails that escaped and layde eggs in lampshades. If you want them to mate, get a top for sure, and lower the water level so there is about 4 inches between the surface of the water and the top of the tank.

Talulah Bell: you answer could not be further from the truth. Do a search for "asexual reproduction" and you will quickly learn that no snails are asexual. Many snails are hermaphroditic, but they are all too advanced to fertilize themselves, so a partner is always needed. Mystery snails on the other hand, are not hermaphroditic. There are males and females, and well, you know what it takes for those types of organisms to reproduce.

OK....here it is,Snails do need other snails to reproduce, Some say they are a-sexual or hermaphrodite. When a snail is produced it is ether male or female....But put two males together and one will turn female and or visa-versa, or what ever. Be warned! This can turn disastrous if you don't keep on top of it. Snails have a way fouling you tank when they die in places that are hidden or when baby snails dig under your gravel bed, don't come up and die. All that aside, Snails can be fun to keep if cared for properly, and yes they can and will clime out of your tank without a proper lid.
