I am almost 100% positive that it is one of a series of commemorative coins issued by a service station chain in the 1970s. I collected all of them at the time and that sounds EXACTLY like the one I had on Polk. I cannot remember if it was Shell, Texaco, or Chevron that issued the coins. I know they had NO precious metal in them and they are probably worth less than a dollar each--unless you find someone on e-bay that is a collector of old gas station promitions and then you may get a bit more for it.
