Hey neighbor! Did you mix up my address with another neighbor who agreed to pay you for your maintenance services? Can I ask you to be honest with me: Why are you trimming my trees?
You might discover that the person is trying out the golden rule, being neighborly, or that they're hoping to be paid for services you didn't request. Maybe they expect som favor in return, but since you didn't ask for this, explain that you're uncomfortable having him in your yard under the circumstances. Maybe he just didn't know what type of cookies you like. ;)

Tell them that you know they mean well and are being helpful by doing your yard. But tell them that it bothers you (you may be feeling obliged to pay, they are indirectly saying you yard looks bad) say it with a smile and in a nice way. I think they will get the idea. Wait for the right moment to do it.

First thing I would ask is "are you lost"? What ever gave this neighbor the idea, they could just come into your yard and do this? It would be hard for me to be "polite".

I would thank them. They obviously notice your yard enough to know that you are not taking care of it, so they probably take time out of their busy schedule to make it look nice. Then offer them a glass of something cold.

How dare your neighbor! The audacity to think that other people besides him or herself would want to beautify the yard! For shame!

THANK YOU SO MUCH BUT I WAS GOING TO DO WHATEVER IT IS AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING IT FOR MYSELF. IF NEIGHBOR STILL COMES IN YARD CALL 911 AND GET AN ORDER FOR HIM TO STAY OUT. I HAD A FRIEND WHOSE NEIGHBOR CALLED THE TREE TRIMERS TO CUT DOWN HIS TREE. HE DIDN'T WANT THE TREE DOWN AT THAT TIME AND HE SAID NO, HE WASN'T PAYING FOR IT.
