I used to have a Windows XP desktop. It came installed with Encarta and Microsoft Works, which had options for pie charts and line graphs etc. Now, I bought a top of the line laptop that does not have Encarta and Microsoft Works does not have as many utlities, such as easy graph making. Is this because it is a laptop or because Windows wants me to buy Microsoft Office, which they do because my computer tells me everytime I enter Microsoft Works? I can't even make a powerpoint without buying Microsoft Office, which came installed on my friend's Mac for free. I guess my question is "Is Windows picking on laptop people or what else is going on?"

You may want to investigate OpenOffice.org.

Manufacturers negotiate with Microsoft what versions of software they bundle - if you still have the disks for the desktop, you might be able to install the "older" MS Works.

Mac computers come installed with a trial version of Office. (at least they used to) so they aren't treating them any better.

Microsoft does not pick on laptop people, because they pick on everyone! They are simply trying to get more money from you. Dont give it to them, but get open office for free at www.openoffice.org. Oh, yes, open office is much more secure than Microsoft Office.

wait till anti-virus gets low on days left !!!
then it shuts down and you have to run a restore disc .
then. it starts all over again . untill i understood it better i thought it was a deliberate act.
my resolve was finaly to buy most of their things that kept shutting down because of lack of lic. .

they do it so you have to go out and buy the other products.
what i would do is go into c:/program files and copy the stuff you want to disc and then put it onto your laptop.
