Free enterprise has done more for the human condition than anything else PERIOD. The reason people came to America wasn't because there was a bloated Socialist abomination of a government giving free handouts. It was for OPPORTUNITY. The opportunity to control your own destiny and to succeed with your own two hands.
Case in point, I grew up poor, and now I'm not poor. I utilized my talents, worked hard, and changed my situation. If I can do that, anybody can. Especially if I'm as "stupid" as the Liberals say we Conservatives are. Talk about Liberal "tolerance" . . . what a joke.

I guess you forgot about the top 10% when it comes to minimum wage and slavery. Recognizing your picture as a king of the jungle with your question shows you are just a mighty mouse thinking you can save the day by showing children glimmer and glitz.
You can have your cake and eat it to by educating yourself without any help but these children need a wage they can build some capital with. A strong America was built on free labor from the *****'s and these *****'s do not get an education worthy of their past. They don't even know the value of a dollar as they wear high top sneakers and listen to their jungle music. I find it interesting how people use terms like liberals and conservatives when we are all just living under the tarp of Uncle Sam.

I won't spend a week destroying your faulty notions about conservatism.
I'll just point out that Govt guaranteed small business loans are a liberal program that you apparently favor. An honest conservative would call it socialism and oppose it.
As far as opportunity versus entitlements (which is wrong because social welfare programs are not entitlements. One has to apply and be accepted.) vs. opportunity, opportunity is not universally distributed. Neither are quality educations or any other govt service.
It's lovely to say people should work their way up. Sometimes there isn't a ladder to climb.

But there is a cost to all the "help" and thus it is most efficiently done for a return.... Once you accept that consumers direct the allocation of resources in a market it all flows from there - profit is the measure by which you allocate resources according to the consumers' wishes, thus profit-motive should be the basis for all "help," which is just another word for investment.

There is no middle ground...only a transition towards one extreme or the other. We're either a free economy, or we're not. You merely argue how much impediment the economy can stand before we begin heading backwards.

Immigrants succeed here with little money all the time.
Hard work is the precursor to success and the enemy to the liberal agenda.
