I'm ordering a Prom dress over the internet and i'm a little confused by what size dress i should go for.
I'm 5.2, 134lbs and have an athletic build. I don't have huge hips and have broad shoulders.

all of this information does not help us with your size. Your bust, waist and hip measurements are most important. Most places will have a sizing chart and tell you where to measure but generally they are the following:

bust - measure the widest/fullest part of your bust
waist - generally your natural waist which is not the same thing as where you wear your pants...usually just below belly button.
hips - stand with heels together, and measure approximately 8" below the waist.

Once you have these measurements, you can look up on the size chart and see what sizes you fall under. Keep in mind that if you are between sizes, or you fit more than one size you should order the largest measurement. For example, two out of my three measurements are one size, but the third (my hips) are larger, so when buying things like pants or dresses, I have to go up a size.

This will help you with any clothing you purchase online, not just dresses. However, I do think it is best to just go to the store and try on a bunch of stuff. It is so much easier. And what happens if the dress you order does not fit?

I hope this helps.

Whatever you get will have to be altered. Start with a size 6 but you may want to alter an 8 down. At 5'2" you're short (me too) but at 134lbs with broad shoulders you are of a stockier build. It is easier to take in a bustline than let it out.

Why the net?

Would it not be best to shop in a store?

I suppose if the fit is all wrong you can take the dress to be altered to fit.

Most sites have very explicit measurments, but you still end up needing some alteration if you are fussy on fit.

Your first mistake is ordering the dress through the internet. Go to the store and get one. Don't make the same mistake I did. If it won't fit u will waste a time sending it back.

I agree with the above post, you need to measure yourself and if you fall in between two sizes, chose the bigger one that can be altered.

Your measurements would help. Weight doesn't tell us very much about your size.
