this goes with my old question relating to the single fry in my tank, but now im even more curious because i watched her start to give birth to another in the breeding nest, looked away for a moment to check on the other guy *i cant get him in the nest but he seems to be doing okay* and looked back and the other baby was gone. so either mommy has been eating her babies or she's just not giving birth to many o.O so how many is typical for a guppy?

here is a best answer i can tell you about the guppies fishes ?

basically adult female guppies are almost always pregnant. the reason is that they can store sperms . So after they have mated with a male fish they can use the sperm from that one mating for many bathches of offspring.

the size of her belly is about the best way to tell when she is pregrnant she will look really puffed up.

you can keep the adult in the hatchery thing to indefinitely if you want . i would move the fry out after a week or so to some larger place to let them grow up . plus not usually the mother gupppy does eat her own babbies if there are also a male in there too then i will just move him into a other tank so he wouldnt have able try to eat the eggs when it hatched . most does do that.
