Did you actually go out and purchace windows XP, or are you using a bootleg copy? If its a bootleg copy, if the other person (the original owner) has registered the product. It will sometimes read that your copy has already been used, which will put a stop to your download. Also, you may have it set under your preferences to automatically restart when a new product is introduced. If all else fails...get a new comp. Hope I was some help.

When you install windoes XP it does restart a few times to do this so this could be normal.

You could have an install disc that is damaged and it can't read some of the files off of it so aborts the shutdown.

Even if it was an illegal CD it should install, it would just nag you about being illegal rather than shutting down so it is not because of this.

sounds to me like it is running on battery, and it is run down, if your power lead when plugged in and close to thesocket is bent or twisted even tho it is plugged in it might be broke inside the lead covering itself, it happened to me, could not understand why it would start to boot up and just go off, until i turned and twisted the wire near the power socket and noticed that when i had it in a certain position it worked, and then when it was moved the battery icon came on even tho the power lead was in, have the power lead checked out

Maybe your computer and the components was not compatible.

Run the following tests before installing, assuming your computer will run now.

1)Not enough memory
2)Not enough power
3)Or your system 32 componet in screwed up
4)Or you systems module could be dead
5) If its a bootleg copy Microsoft send a signal to the computer to tell it to shut down so you should buy orginal stuff so go get and origanal and it will work.

If it's an illegal copy, it will usually do that now...
