I don't need to use the spell check. At school - a 'bog-standard Comp' by the way - I was called the Walking Dictionary and although I carried a gem dictionary with me at all times in my blazer pocket, it was usually only opened when I loaned it to someone else.
Now, I'm a carer and my colleagues get very irritated with me when they hear me boom ..."Who wrote the board?" The menu board. They use apostrophes far too often ... potato's ... tomato's ... .... ... chip's for heaven's sake. I do try to tell them that a simple plural doesn't contain an apostrophe and when you have more than one tomato, it contains an 'e'.
They just get very irritated.
VERY irritated.
