You need to take your medication as prescribed - not to take more than you should. You could be making your situation worse. (I know nothing about metformin, but I know common sense when it comes to medication, and if you're supposed to take 2000 mg, then you should take 2000 mg!).

It took us 2 years of trying, and nothing was wrong. I actually found out that I was pregnant the day before our first infertility appointment with the doctor who delivered my daughter, and now I'm 32 weeks pregnant with #2.

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an excellent resource.

I am a RN- taking double amounts of Metformin won't do anything to increase your chancing of getting PG. They say metformin only helps induce ovulation when taken with Clomid- a fertility drug. These two are commonly used together in women who have Polycystic Ovaries caused by insulin resistance. Does your doctor know that you've been taking your metformin so irresponsibly? He could refuse to treat you period if you don't comply with his instructions. That drug is prescribed to you- there is a reason why you can't just buy it over the counter- so you don't self medicate!!
It sounds like you are desperate- stress is not good for insulin control problems or TTC- so take a deep breath and relax.. and take your medication as ordered!

And if you've been trying for over a year like myself- go to the OB/GYN and talk to him about infertility and your insulin problems- he will probably be able to help- and be grateful about it!

I know what it feels like...i was diagnosed in 2002. My hubby & I have been ttc for over a year now & still no luck. I was on metformin & clomid.....but that didnt help either.

I heard Vitex helps out women with pcos that werent able to conceive with metformin or clomid. I havent tried it yet...but I will soon. You can get it at GNC or a vitamin store...its also very inexpensive...i think its about $10-$15 a bottle.

Hope everything works out for you!

here's my email if you need to talk to someone!

Hey there, I know it's difficult to wait, but you need to make sure that your diabetes is under control b/c if you get pregnant and it's not, you could run into severe complications that can harm you and your baby. Talk to your doctor about your meds and just keep trying. You may need to keep track of your cycle by taking your basal temp every morning or using an ovulation detector to determine your LH surge. It took me well over a year to get pregnant, which ended, and my cycles were all messed up for months. But I conceived again and crossing my fingers for this one. If things don't change after another year, then I would suggest you and your husband get checked out just to make sure everything is ok. Good Luck.
