do you have kids? do you own a property? if the answer is yes to either then best get a solicitor. if not and you both agree to share the stuff you own (househole items etc) then you dont need. will cost around £300 - decide btwn yourselves who pays that, and that will be the only cost. solicitors costs vary. do you have a joint bank account/savings? can you amicably split them?
i guess a lot depends on the current relationship btwn u and your missus. if she's okay to just get divorced and not fight and be petty and you are too, then just do it yourself.
good luck.xx

Got divorced myself after 14 years and did it all with an online service really cheaply.
Ex and I had agreed everything about splitting our properties, investments etc and maintenance for the children, which was all put into the divorce paperwork.
It only works though if you can BOTH be adult about how things are split. It certainly saved us both from the emotional rollercoaster i've seen others go through when solicitors get involved.
Better to line your pockets than solicitors if you can.
Hope it goes well for you ;-)

If you both agree you want a divorce the cheapest way is to firstly sort out any child and financial arrangements amicably. After you have been seperated for two years you can get a 'diy' divorce. You get the forms from the court, pay a fee and it takes a matter of months. No solictiors on either side. The grounds are irreconcilable differences proved by two years separation. The forms are quite easy to do.
If the other person agrees and you have a different reason eg adultery, you can do it before the two years are up.
PS Im assuming youre in UK

A solicitor means they're going door to door wanting to sell something. How about an attorney? I would suggest a dissolution if you guys want to try and make a clean break; if you file for a divorce; you're basically sueing her for things you shared during the marriage etc..

No, you dont need a solicitor, If UK, you can go to the local Magistrates court, they have papers on how to file your own divorce, the proceedures, what you will need to do and when and how much. You could also go to your local CAB office where they should be able to advise you.

it would be faster without one but if you have children you need one. don't just go to her lawyer he is not representing you, go to a lawyer together or get one of your own
