If you went to a tax prep service like H & R Block, they might go ahead and do an amended return for free. They have all the information already, they'll just transfer it to the 1040X.
I did that the year before last. I got to amend 2 years worth of taxes for free.

Or you can download the 1040X for free from the IRS website.
There's also an instruction booklet to help you.

You can pull up Form 1040X from www.irs.gov website. The instructions are out there. Did you forget to give your preparer a W-2? I'm guessing that's the case. Yes, they will charge you quite a bit to do an amended return, but do you feel that you're capable of doing it yourself? If you weren't qualified to do your own return, you might find the 1040X to be somewhat confusing. In any case, take a look at the form and see what you think.

I don't quite know what an amendment is. If you are asking can you refile your taxes, yes you can. You file a 1040X. If you want to know can you just do your own form and you just have a W2, you can file a form 1040ez. It is pretty simple and you can download it and instructions from the website. Or you can go buy the cheapie version of Turbo Tax for about $20 and it will get you thru it. 1040ez is really easy. . .

use 1040x. it's easy enough for anyone to do it. you need the return you are amending to make it work.
