How do I go about doing this without giving him the wrong idea? I don't really want to do this, so... would it be weird for a girl to go to the prom with her girl friends and without a date? I really want to have fun on this once in a lifetime event, but I don't want to go if it will be awkward. HELP! WHAT SHOULD I DO AND HOW SHOULD I DO IT????

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable for a girl to ask a guy, especially if he is not in the class year that is attending the prom. If it is strictly a friendship type of date, set all the guidelines up front about who is paying for what (like you buy the tickets, and he do the limo, etc.)
And, it is not weird in some areas for a girl to go to the prom alone. Some guys go stag, who knows, maybe you would find someone there to dance with...
But, the nice thing about having a guy go with you is you have someone to dance with, and you also have someone to split costs for pictures, limo, tickets.
I am not sure how your school is, some have weird things like only couples can attend. If your friends are going alone, then that is cool!
Just as long as you have fun!
But, remember, it is always nicer to look good for someone else, and not just yourself!

it is very ok. guys asking girls is so yesterday. yes it would be weird to go with a girl, even these days, unless you are actually homosexual, in which case its fine, but otherwise, prom is not the place for girl/girl as friends. ask a guy to go with you as a friend, bu tmake sure he is good looking and you could be interested someday, because you'll probably ended up getting some from him that night.

yes! some people prefer the old fashioned "guy asking girl" but things have changed! if you like the guy, and/or he's too shy to ask you, then go for it! good luck!
