the thoughts I have so far are: I'm alive (celine dion), I will be (lila mccann), Lean on me (any upbeat version), Happy day, Joyful Joyful, true colors (cindy lauper), I'll be there (escape club), I'll be there for you (bon jovi). Any genre or any era! Some religious songs are ok, but it would be really good to have some that are not since the choir will have some affiliations to a state organization. Thank you soooo much for any ideas!

Lark, I've got to admit I'm completely envious of you. You have got a killer voice, and I'm sure you'll blow them all away. So, let me get this straight. You'll be first performing (assuming this is the correct order): 1) Feeling Good ~ Nina Simone 2) One of your original songs 3) Somewhere Over the Rainbow ~ Israel Kamakawiwo In regards to Feeling Good: Nina Simone has got such great strong vocals and it'll definitely be interesting to see how you pull it off. Regretful how I won't be able to see you perform it! But it's a great song, and personally, it puts me into an awesome mood. It will sound brilliant with your jazz band. Followed by an original song: I listened to all 4 of them, and you're planning to do Eye on Love. You've got raw talent. It's beautiful, and I actually think that if you wanted to, you could perform that one last, to conclude it with your own touch. What's not to love about it? : ) By the way, No Escape is also a great song. Somewhere Over the Rainbow: I actually love this song; I have since I was little when I first got introduced to it by one of my closest, dearest friends who passed away of cancer. So it's incredibly meaningful to me. It's peaceful, pacifying, reflective...perfect. On a second note, you should probably perform this one last. --- All those 3 songs have a soft, tranquil, and moving message about them. In that case, in order to compliment them, I wouldn't choose something particularly different or very fast-moving. --- From your list, I'll choose my favorite ones: I'm Yours ~ Jason Mraz: This is actually a good pick, because while these 3 songs are deep and stirring (in particular Somewhere Over the Rainbow & Feeling Good), I like how it compliments Eye on Love. They are both lighthearted and awesome for prom. Turn Me On ~ Norah Jones: This is also superb because...well, Norah Jones has got an incredibly impressive and beautiful voice. In addition to Turn Me On, I also really like Come Away With Me. You could opt for either one, as they are both great. Answer ~ Sarah Mclachlan: This song is just...exceptionally good. I know that I've said that about every song above but...I really like this one. She's got a brilliant voice. Sea Of Love ~ Cat Power: I love the jazzy feel of this song. This would also be a great choice. Songbird ~ Fleetwood Mac: You probably have noticed that I'm a huge fan of Eva Cassidy, so naturally, I like this adopted version of Songbird. This is my all-time favorite song. I truly, really, and entirely recommend it. --- Other recommendations: - Come Away With Me ~ Norah Jones - Songbird ~ Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold ~ Eva Cassidy - re: stacks ~ Bon Iver - I Wanna Hold Your Hand ~ The Beatles - Blackbird ~ The Beatles - Yesterday ~ The Beatles - Both Sides Now ~ Joni Mitchell --- Holy smokes, I've written a lot. To summarize it up, I choose my final recommendations in addition to a) Feeling Good b) Eye on Love c) Somewhere Over the Rainbow: - I'm Yours - Songbird (by either Fleetwood Mac or Eva Cassidy, whichever version) - I Wanna Hold Your Hand (maybe slightly slower than the original version) - Fields Of Gold - Both Sides Now Done! Sorry for such a long answer. I wish you the best, and I KNOW you will do fantastic. Tell me about it afterwards! ((Hugs)) & Break a leg! ~breatheme.
