It would be great if you could describe particular scenes. For example, the scene from the Matrix where Neo receives a package containing a cell phone which rings as soon as he picks it up.

24 has done more to promote mobile usage than any advertising campaign!

Just finished watching "The Insider" with Al Pacino and Russell Crowe. Several of the films key moments occur between characters talking on the mobile phone. For example after the hacked up interview is shown on 60 minutes, Wigand is sitting alone in his hotel room, Bergman calls him from his house by the sea. Wigand doesn't answer, so Bergman calls the hotel manager who races upstairs (still on the phone) to try and get Wigand to answer the phone. Bergman thinks he'll commit suicide. The wall of the hotel changes to a scene of Wigand's kids playing in the backyard, while Wigand looks on. Bergman can't get mobile reception so he goes out into the water until he can! By the end of the scene he's about 100m out from the shore up to his waist chatting on the phone. Classic.

I always though X Files popularized..and indeed could have invented the cell phone. The movie Crank also showed the cell in more deperate usage

I think you got the best example out there!
But, in "My Best Friend's Wedding" (Julia Roberts) I like when the gay friend calls her and she finally realizes that he is calling from the wedding.
