I have always been really interested in ice skating, but my mom would never let me take lessons when I was little. At the college I go to ice skating lessons are offered and I'm considering taking the lessons. I'm sure I'll probably continue taking lessons at the rink once the class is over with, but I am worried I will be in classes with little 10 year olds (the classes are ages 6 and up). Are there usually a good amount of older girls in ice skating lessons too? I don't want to be the oddball of the group lol.

Also, I was wondering about competitions. Are there competitions for older girls who haven't been skating very long? I ask this because I'd hate to be in a competition with other girls my age who have been in ice skating for years doing triple lutzes while I'm doing waltz jumps lol.

Also if you have any other knowledge to share with me about the subject I'd love to hear it

i am an 11 year old turning 12 in march i ice skate all the time about 2-4 times a week. i started when i was only 7 and i am now in freestyle 4 there are many levels to ice skating and you might want to start at level alpha here is a list:
alpha
beta
gamma
delta
freestyle 1
freestyle2
freestlye 3
freestlye4
freesyle5
and freestyles go up to 10

you start spins and jumps in the freestyle levels

i know you may be older then the reguler age my ice skating rink gives classes for those who start at an older age so you could meet someone there in those classes i have seen these classes with people even older than you because i like to hang out there but when you enter a freestyle level you can enter reguler classes

about your intrest in competitions:
what you should do is first pass alpha and then you can enter a competition but its ok if you lose its just new to you my little sister is in gamma and she took a competition and didnt win but that is ok

you should definaly start nd who knows you could be in the olympics!!

dont worry i think you could be great just excercise more stay in shape watch the ice competitions on tv and do some research!!!

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. I used to take lessons when I was little but then I quit when I was about 9, I'm now 18 and I really want to take it up again but I'm afraid cause I know I'd have to start all over. I was looking at some skating rink websites and they have classes for adults in beginners skating. I think they teach skating at every age. I'm not really sure about the competitions but I'm know some rinks have basic skill contests. I'm not sure if they ahve that near you nor not though. good luck!
