Probably the same as TV has done for Americans. People like to be entertained... hence the reason why we are on YA! ... Sorry...humans are lazy by natrue.

Well, i am only 16 and i remember when i was in grade 2, all the other older kids used to talk about going to the library and doing their h/m there. But then ,as the years went on, I kinda expected to have to do the same, only computers and the internet came and soon i forgot about the library and all the books there. No I just use the internet.
I still love books, but i buy my own now, i dont get the from the lib.
So...I think that the internet has already dumbed us all down a bit, with all the information to be found all in one place and all that horrible stuff ppl can access. Just like TV
BUT, the internet has also opend up my eyes to many new things . Just like TV. unlike TV though, it has saved me a lot of time studying and doing my h/m. ; )
So i guess that it depends on who u r personally, whether u will let stuff like that make u dumber or if u will use it to ur advantage (mentally).

Dumber, in general. Like TV there is potential for education, but in the end it will be about advertising revenue and "eyeballs" so what get the most eyeballs, Anna Nichole's train wreck, not the history channel, same here, what gets the most eyeballs, Britney's crotch.....It's really a shame and a waste

It will make people dumber cause hardly anyone has the thirst for knowledge that would save them from letting their brains turn to mush by filling it with "entertainment"

Hey, you have a very good question here. I think it would depend on what you tend to do with your computer and what you look up. Answering questions will definately not help one to become smarter. It is entertaining though. LOL

It can do both. If I have a project to do for school I mostly use the internet to find information and it is extremely helpful and you can learn a lot. But there are sites that you can waste your time playing games or reading information that is useless and incorrect.
