It is not normal because before, this occured only in hot summer. This problem happened only 2 months ago. It's really noisy. Sometimes I put the defroster but I never put the AC because it's cold. I put either the heater, either the defroster.

should run in any weather....the noise is bad bearings.

That fan will also engage when the AC compressor is engaged. The compressor will be engaged when the defroster is on as well as when the AC is in use. The AC will help to dry out the air that flows across the heater core on the way to the windshield. This makes the defroster much more effective in the winter.
