I have been married twice, Divorced twice. Totalling 15 years. Been divorced now 17 years. I have been happier being divorced than married.
I have been dating the same gal for 12 years. I would safely say the sex is better and less complicated. Other than the occasional loneliness your alone time isn't so bad. Weekends together works for some. However, I am not fixated on having to have someone in my place 24/7.
Sadly I realize some people fear being alone for life. When a person cooks, cleans, makes enough money to survive... You need the opposite sex for what??? I can think of perhaps a couple of things.

The stupid chemistry part doesn't take no time at all unless you read and listen to all the sappy pop songs -- in that childish case it could last forever.
Getting over it otherwise, never. Once divorced you will always be divorced, the children will always be the children of a broken home, if you start a new life with a new family and your happy -- you still have to look at your spouse and know you are a divorcee and you will have to tell your new children someday. It will impact you and everyone around you for the rest of your life. If you don't believe that then you are just lieing to yourself.
That's as real as it gets.

I don't know how long it takes to get over someone. It depends on all sorts of factors and is individual to the individual concerned i imagine. I told my ex-hub i was leaving him 4 years and 4 months ago. We got divorced and i am now remarried and i am much happier!
To get over someone you have to be pro-active. Its no good sitting at home looking at old photos with a damp hankie in your hand! Accept invitations even if you dont want to go. Do different things. Plan your weekends. You have to get past the grieving period for an old relationship but you have to move on. Read 'Who Moved My Cheese' - good book!

I am married almost 8 years, but not divorced.
I think the length of time to "get over it" depends on the circumstances and people involved. If it came apart fast in a shocking way (i.e. you found out your husband was a gay prostitute and dealt heroin) you'd probably need a while. If it was a marriage that had been romantically dead for years, probably not as long.

i was married for 10 years. was only 21 when we got married. we just drifted apart, so it didn't take long to get over it. i am now with the woman i wish i'd met years ago and couldn't be happier. everyone is different, so there are no hard and fast rules for how long it takes to get over a broken relationship. not a lot of help, i know. sorry.

I was married for 12 years; I instigated the break up; it was very traumatic - my ex was a possessive man - I swore off men for a couple of years, then nature takes over; I was still young -33 - and I dated for a couple of years, always casual, always being the one who called the shots; I met someone unexpectedly, was with him for three years, and we had a child together. He left, and even left the country!
It took me four years to get over him. I'm with my present partner for 10 years.
It's in the nature of human beings to want closeness with another person. I'm very content with my partner - we are both in our fifties; however, I am very much the stronger personality, and although I care for him very much, I would not marry again. I feel it keeps him interested that I am always slightly out of reach.

I was with a girl who looked like ugly betty for 7 years.
I f.....d her lights out for 2 years, then i found out all she did was moan, moan ,moan.Knocked her up,hung around for 3 years and finally i could'nt take the grief anymore.
I felt better the day we split up.
Nearly the best thing i ever did behind giving up smoking and having a kid.
It was a good call.
Now she is fat, nasty and just shouts at the poor bloke she is with now.I actually feel sorry for him.
It takes a few years to get them out of your system though.
Im single and love it.

It takes time about one year at least.
When your loved one dies it is even harder.
I had 3 wives 2 common laws, my last one we did it,we got married, she died a year ago to cancer.
When I was going through the separation with my other wives I just kept busy and got in to other relationships and stayed single. I was lonely sometimes but I got stronger each time and learned to know and love myself.
Good luck

married, and divorced.
Running into a brick wall once is enough for me. I can forgive my ex-wife enough to not hate her, but I'd rather be alone than be the victim of "falling out of love" and the horrors of having everything snatched from me again.
I don't think I'll ever be able to trust someone like that ever again.

I was over my marriage and the ex before the divorce was final. No, I'm not with anyone else, I like being single and don't have any desire to be with anyone else.
