A country where anyone is free to express their language, dress, food, religion, customs, etc without persecution - while at the same time learning the dominant language and living by the rule of law of the chosen country including the freedoms given to women and children as opposed to their culture.

I live in a country where this has been the case all my life until recently. Talk is now of tolerance. We have always been inclusive butthe word tolerance now seems to cover those who do not wish to leave all that is bad behind when they come to a new country as it may erode their power base at home or within their community.

I call Australia home and are proud to live in a multicultural family. My in laws are English, Sri Lankan, Italian, Swedish and my wife is German.
We are all Australian.

Multicultural in itself is its definition. Its a society (a group of people) who have it its make up three or more people from different cultures. Applying sophisticated definitions only confuse the definition.

Communication is a key as to whether that society can live in harmony. Being able to communicate ones culture to others establishes standards for the group. At the same time communicating ones acceptance of other cultures (both verbal and non-verbal communications) allows others to live at peace with honor and respect.

Lack of communication can lead to paranoia, segregation and even violence in a multicultural society.

a multicultural society would consist of people from different ethnic backrounds and cultures living and working together. Eventually they would mesh together and one culture would dominate. This would be cultural leveling or diffusion where the ideas and beliefs of one culture are spread around to others.Of course there is always going to be conflict. However one interesting thing I learned in regards to this and Spanish immigrants, was the people who are successful in these cultures are not the ones who learn to speak English or Spanish, but learn to speak both languages. So multicultural societies are hybrids is you will, even if one culture dominates, there still will be room for exposure to other ways of life as wells as communication and cooperation between different subcultures within the primary society.

A multi-cultural society is one in which people from different ethnic and cultural origins can be found living together in one place. The US is a multi-cultural society. We have many different ethnic groups from many different countries, all living here, practicing their cultural heritage...ie Chinese New Year, Kwanza, St. Patricks Day....all living together in this one country. Communication is essential to this kind of multiplicity. With so many different beliefs, there i a great risk of being misunderstood because cultural differences translate in different ways. An innocent remark from a white person can be a true statement of hatred to an asain person. Communicating effectively can let both parties understand, the one to say it differently, the other to understand the intent, if not the words.

A society in which an observer can recognise several distinctive subcultures characterised by differences in some or all of dress, language, religion or spirituality, norms and values, prevalent sports, games and pastimes, family structure etc ~ with borders between the subcultures sufficiently porous for the observer to also be aware of transcultural activity, for example people from one group practising some of the choices and customs of another, and of metacultural activity i.e. the emergence of new forms and patterns arising from the blending of the prior subcultures (e.g. "Indie" music; e.g. English-language Tibetan Buddhism).

Communication is essential for each group to understand the others, and the more substantial and accurate the communication the more likely inter-group relationships are to be characterised by harmony and co-operation rather than fear and suspicion.

People say that we are the melting pot of the worl. I dont thinks so. were more like huge chunks of vegetables in a pot. We all live on the same peace of land (america) but we all dont get along. Like how alot people are not getting along with the hispanics and who people are bieng predidice towards blacks.. I believe the tur meaning of that is when we start to interact with each other, to the point where we all fuse together and cultures and become one, wether that is in getting along together or have a baby being every culture there is. And what a beautiful day that will be

Simply put, one that is doomed to collapse. Mixing of cultural, or diversity only weakens the original, and the more diverse, the weaker the original becomes until eventually it dies. And along with it all the original principles that made it flourish in the first place. Think of it as Divide and conquer. Sad to say, it is happening right here in America.
