I took the shot for the first time on the first day of my period on Feb. 2nd. It's now the 12th and it's not letting up. What is the average? My friend said that when she first started she was on her period for 3 days, then again another 3 days 2 weeks later, then 3 days another 2 weeks, and hasn't been on her period since. I just want to know is that the average or what is average?

i cannot remember my very first period when on depo, but I can tell you how it has been for the last 10 years or so....my old periods, pre-depo usually lasted 6-8 days, were very long and very heavy. Very depressing. since being on depo, they are very light and can last anywhere from 3 - 10 days. most times I barely need to wear a panty liner. On average they go away in about 5 days. And I usualy only get them 4 times a year round about when my next shots are due. Each month I still do get the same symptoms of a period like the bloating and back ache, just not the bleeding. Every once in a long while, I get the one period that just hangs on forever. 2 weeks I think was the longest. spotting sporadicaly the whole time.

each person is different. some people may not ever get a period.

Depo was the 1st birth control I tried, about 11 or 12 years ago, I was about 15, I don't know if this was a factor, but when I got my period it did not stop for at least a month. I went back to my gyno and got on the pill. Sorry, but for me it was a nightmare.

When I got on it, I had a really long period, I think like 15 days or so. Then I did not have another one, I would sometimes spot bleed though. I hope you have a better experience than I did with the shot. It made me crazy emotional and killed my sex drive.

You shoud stop having a period at all after a couple months, it will be a little crazy for a while. It is different for everyone. I bled for about a month straight. I finally went to my doctor who prescribed estrogen to stop the bleeding.
