Hello,
(ANS) I think this is a VERY grey area for a GP (family doctor) to get directly involved in. In my opinion (my dad was a GP for many years) I dont think he/she can say state the cause in a sick note is directly work place bullying.
But my guess is that they might state the cause of sickness to be work place stress, or work related pressure. Or something like that, may be psychosomatic illness or a pyschosomatic condition as a result of stress.
**Dont forget stress in the work place is a credible issue faced my many employers.
**Dont forget we have a macho managment culture here in the UK. Many employers think lunch brakes are for wimps & dont consider stress caused by the long hours culture.
**We work some of the longest hours of any countries with the exception of the USA.
**Dont foget that a sick note will be read by the employer too, or HR dept or HR manager or line manager, supervisor etc. So a sick note has to be credible from the GP's point of view, they cannot give some wolley untrue diagnosis.
Dont know if that helps?
Best Regards IR

i doubt it because bullying is not a medical condition but my guess is that the doctor can write something like stress caused by bullying at work or depression because of bullying in the workplace?
Hope this helps and hope things get better for you :)

He can put whatever the reason is. I would expect him to put the results of the bullying as the reason. If you ever need to file a claim on your company the cause will be contained in his notes on your file.

Not really, as it has little to do with your physical condition. If there are physical implications, then per your company's abuse policy further action should be taken. Regardless, if you work for a respectable company, you should not be faulted for feeling unsafe at work, as long as you make it known to a supervisor that there is a threat.

Don't think so as it is not a medical condition. They are more like to out something like 'work related stress' - good luck.
