I can only speak for myself. With my Faith comes compassion.
In my life, Faith is more important.

Compassion. Faith is believing in things that may not be real. At least with compassion, you show emapthy to your fellow human beings.

Faith is more important because without faith or belief there would be no compassion.
If you see a fellow human being injured what makes you stop for him? Faith or compassion?
Or better yet why do you have compassion?
Is it because you believe in a standard of conduct? That's faith.
To believe that we should have compassion on our fellow humans is a faith based statement.
So any person on here who says "compassion is greater" is making a statement of faith.
Faith is greater because faith is the cause of compassion.

Compassion. All the faith in the world won't do a damn thing. Help people, instead of lookin after your own back by 'having faith.'

Jesus said, "It is by FAITH that you have been saved." Not by compassion. Although it is a very important thing to have in the christian life, it doesent come close to being as important as faith.
Also, to the person above. Faith is not beleiving in things that arent real. Faith is the evidence of things not seen.

Compassion is more important. It HAS been proven that people need love.
Faith is based on a belief in something. usually in some form of god or goddess that has no way whatsoever to be proven to or not to exist.
The fallout from that, is religious based wars where people kill themselves in an all out rage against other infidels who don't believe just like they do, it kills the love people have for each other.
Compassion is the most important.
If there is a god and they destroy us one day for choosing to love our fellow men or women, doing the best we can, and they still wish to destroy us for not KNOWING they are there (can't see, hear, feel, touch, taste, or smell them), then they are a god that deserves no worship.
If you are serving or martyring yourself out of a fear you will burn forever if you don't evangelize and kill others for not believing, then you are living your life in vain, neither truly loving others, nor doing things out of love, but rather, instead, living a life built on fear and the fear you cause in others.

If I have to choose between your two hypotheticals, then it would be compassion.
Faith - or a belief system - may or may NOT affect how you treat other humans.
A sense of compassion, on the other hand, would be preferable.
